Customer Success Story - ITS, Dell & Farmington Schools

Farmington Area Schools wanted to centralize management of school endpoints and minimize power consumption by centrally powering them up and down as needed. The district deployed Dell™ Client Manager from Altiris, a plug-in for the Dell Management Console, for centralized endpoint management. What they received was a faster deployment than expected from Altiris partner ITS Parnters. Approximately $105,000 savings in annual power costs, one image to manage for all Dell desktops and laptops, and system deployment in minutes instead of hours.

Chuck Hegarty, Vice President of Sales for ITS Partners, quoted in recent Symantec Press Release On how Symantec Urges Partners to Narrow Focus in 2010.

Grand Rapids, MI (November 16, 2009) As Symantec continues to push new products ranging from its endpoint security to storage management to workflow software, its executive and channel team are urging partners not to lose focus and specialize in products where they can have the most success...

"Instead of being all things across the portfolio…I would rather you focus on the things that you are experts in. I would rather have folks that are more knowledgeable in fewer things than a little bit of knowledge in a lot of things," Enrique Salem said.

One Symantec partner that understands the need for gradual expansion within the portfolio is ITS Partners of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Originally an Altiris partner that focused exclusively on security configuration management, ITS is gradually adopting Symantec’s endpoint security products that mesh well with its core competency.

"Don’t bite off more than you can chew," says Chuck Hegarty, ITS Partner‘s vice president of business development and alliances. "We want to be a great endpoint security partner, and we’re going to get certified in our sweet sport.".

Wade Wyant, Managing Partner of ITS, quoted in recent Channel Insider Article about Workflow Organizing Businesses Better.

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan (March 12, 2009) Symantec is betting that its Altiris Workflow Solution will automate the way end users define processes and interact with systems and business tasks, and will improve operational efficiencies. What workflow apps require are solution providers that understand the technology and business operations.

“Workflow can automate in ways that we never could before,” said A. Wade Wyant, managing partner of ITS Partners, a systems management solution provider in Grand Rapids, MI. “You’ve been automating with computers since punch cards. Workflow will take it to the next level."

“It’s all about integration,” says Enrique Salem, Symantec’s chief operating officer and future CEO, who mentioned the game-changing potential of workflow technology in the opening of his keynote address at Managed Fusion.

Ben Dixon, Practice Principle for ITS, quoted in recent Channel Insider Article about VPro ROI Doesn't Require a Complete PC Refresh.

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan (March 11, 2009) Businesses can reap the benefits and cost savings of Intel's chip-based management capabilities even if only parts of their PC fleet are VPro-enabled. Solution providers say having that capability could make a significant difference if resources become scarce.

"They need to take the first step and ask what they can do once VPro is activated and what can you do cheaper," said Ben Dixon, the southeast practice principal for ITS, a Michigan-based solution provider specializing in systems management. "You can show a savings even if only 30 percent of the machines have VPro. It’s only part of the equation, but it’s better than nothing and you can show a greater savings when you have 100 percent with VPro."

At the Managed Fusion event in Las Vegas, Symantec launched Altiris Client Management System 7, which complements VPro with management and reporting mechanisms for software deployment and system configuration management. CMS 7.0 includes several previously separate applications, including Real-Time Systems Management, which provides the suite with the ability to push changes to a single client. VPro and CMS together, solution providers say, makes a powerful combination for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of client management.

Customer Success Story - Aspirus and ITS

Customer and Partner Success Aspirus, a non-profit, community-directed health system based in Wausau, WI, selected Symantec endpoint management and security solutions to help automate the management and security of endpoints and data used by 4,500 employees across two states.

Jesse Kozikowski, Aspirus server analyst, said, "We are tasked with managing the health system's IT and patient care networks to ensure endpoint availability and sensitive data protection. Symantec understands our challenges and Endpoint Management Suite directly addresses the unique requirements of our environment. Considering the demands of end users and the changing threat landscape, we needed more than just a couple of disconnected point products for software delivery or antivirus. We were able to replace several competitive point products with a single, integrated endpoint management solution from Symantec."

To protect its 2,400 endpoints against viruses and malware, the City of Plano, Texas, rolled out Symantec Endpoint Protection using Altiris Client Management Suite. "It was all done automatically," says Cindy Smith, desktop manager, City of Plano. "Using Altiris we were able to install Symantec Endpoint Protection on hundreds of PCs each night. Just set the job up, go home, and in the morning it's done. We deliberately took our time and even then the entire rollout took less than a month. An integrated Symantec solution makes the City of Plano more efficient and secure."

New Symantec Endpoint Management Suite delivers integrated, best-of-breed management, security and recovery solutions

CUPERTINO, CA - (June 23, 2008) - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced the release of the new Symantec Endpoint Management Suite to define the next generation of integrated, best-of-breed systems management, endpoint security and backup and recovery. This first release of Endpoint Management Suite immediately delivers market-leading endpoint control and is built on the Symantec Open Collaborative Architecture to help protect a customer's investment by providing the ability to rapidly address future endpoint requirements.

IT organizations strive for confidence in their operating environment and understand that a truly secure endpoint is a well-managed endpoint. According to industry analysts, more than 90 percent of all system vulnerabilities can be eliminated through proper system configuration and patch management. The remaining vulnerabilities require multi-faceted protection against zero-day and new-breed security threats. In addition, a strong backup and recovery system is necessary to protect organizations against data loss, system failure, user error or disaster.

Symantec Endpoint Management Suite secures the endpoint by providing the leading technology in all three areas of system configuration: management, security and recovery. The suite includes Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0, Altiris Client Management Suite 6 and Backup Exec System Recovery 8 Desktop Edition. In addition, the suite leverages the Symantec Open Collaborative Architecture based on the Altiris service-oriented architecture and configuration management database (CMDB) to further drive the convergence of security and systems management.

The Symantec Open Collaborative Architecture is creating greater interoperability between Symantec solutions and provides partners and customers with the ability to integrate their applications with the Symantec platform. The Web services-based architecture provides data sharing and IT automation to streamline process execution and reduce the cost and risk of IT ownership.

Going forward, Symantec expects to utilize this Open Collaborative Architecture to quickly adapt to customers' most pressing requirements for business alignment, cost reduction, improved IT service, an enhanced end-user experience, and proactive security. Symantec solutions for data loss prevention, endpoint virtualization, network access control, endpoint encryption and automated IT process management are scheduled to be further integrated in the next version of this suite to help Symantec customers remain firmly in control of their endpoint computing environment.

"Symantec delivers the most comprehensive endpoint management solution combining market-leading technology and a service-oriented architecture," said Brad Kingsbury, senior vice president, Endpoint Security and Management, Symantec. "This initial release of Endpoint Management Suite includes best-of-breed management, security and recovery technology and is another important milestone in the delivery of our unified strategy for the endpoint. With leading endpoint virtualization, data loss prevention, data and system protection, IT process automation and network access control technologies, Symantec is uniquely positioned to help our customers be confident in the security and availability of the endpoint."

Symantec understands it takes multiple solutions to fully protect endpoint systems and data from cradle to grave. An integrated approach that combines management, security and recovery provides organizations with visibility into and control of an entire endpoint environment and can help eliminate exposure to security and compliance risks. Symantec Endpoint Management Suite will help create confidence in a stable and efficient endpoint operating environment.
